A useful resource that highlights this strategy--

Create learning tasks that draw on family experiences and everyday activities (for example, write a family history, create graphs of objects in the house).

The Center for Applied Linguistics has been providing activities that engage students in daily activities at home--see the  online learning page of webinars. One webinar for parents as teachers focuses upon "kitchen chemistry." These free webinars should be shared with parents and teachers. Thanks for sharing these strategies to include ELs!
